In God’s Time

So many things have happened to shape and mold our family this year. Some we are now on the other side of and some we are still in the midst of. But one thing remains unchanged ... God’s love has surrounded us.
If there was one passage that came to mind more than any other over the past year it was this:

Psalm 117
“Praise the Lord, all nations!
Extol him, all peoples!
For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!”

We found ourselves settling into another rental at the beginning of 2009, we were much closer to our church family. I can not tell the blessings we have received by only being 5-15 minutes from most of the families in the church. One family is our next door neighbor and a great privilege that has been.
In March, James and I left the children, except for Samuel, and flew to California. It was a wonderful time and we were able to visit with friends, attend a conference, and for me to see a little of where James spent the first many years of his life. I do not think I will ever forget driving down the street and looking out to see Orange trees in the front yards. Orange trees in CA seemed to be as normal as the tall Pines in the Piney Woods of my native East Texas.
Our children were able to stay with one of three families from our church while we were gone. One family with their 6 children came and stayed at our home. Two children went to spend time with a dear family we stayed with when we came house hunting here in NC. And one other went to the neighbors where he kept very busy and had a great time.
On our return home I ended up in bed for a week with strep. I think that was the first time in forever that I had to be taken to the doctor for medical attention. I am so thankful that it is now over.
May brought the most difficult trip I have ever had to make. My Dad called and told me I needed to come home as Mom had been taken to the hospital and was not expected to live. She died a couple of hours after I arrived. We praise the Lord that she is a Christian. The past few months have been hard - but how faithful God has been to my entire family.
We began looking for a house to buy in June. In August God had closed many doors and there was not much left. We looked at one home ... huge ... beautiful setting .... but every wall, ceiling, floor and cabinet would need replaced. A good “project home” for someone. A couple from church came with us to see the house, we still laugh and wonder just who God has in store for such a home.
Our realtor wanted to show us another home. It was just a few minutes from our current home and was “huge” also. So we thought, why not look while we wait to see what God opens up for us. We walked away that day wondering if this might be were God wanted us. We put an offer on the house by the end of the week and waited ... and waited ... and waited ... and waited ... and waited. For 5 months we waited to see what God had planned. I can not begin in this short letter to tell of all the wondrous deeds God did ... all the “impossibilities” of man that He alone ordained and “made happen”. Today we are looking forward to moving in to that very house.
Oh dear friends, I can not tell of all God’s kindness, steadfast love and blessings He has given. How undeserving a sinner I am, and how thankful for such a Savior and Lord I am. I do not know what tomorrow will bring, but God tells me to not fear, for He is my God and He will supply for my every need.
I have learned so much this year. Patience, Love, Joy, and Faithfulness.
Please come ... come and see what the Lord has done. Come share with us how God has been faithful to you. Come and let us worship the Lord together!!
May God be your strength, may you flourish under his rod and staff, and may you stand strong in the day of battle.

The Mysterious Islands

Our church, Hope Baptist, is hosting the premier of The Mysterious Islands. This is a necessary movie in a world that is "celebrating" the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin.

Look at the Mysterious Islands website for the trailer.

Our Desires

"What a blessing it is when all our desires are
after the things of God! .... Desires which can be put off
and on like our garments are at best but mere wishes, and possibly they are
hardly true enough to be called by that name, — they are temporary
emotions born of excitement, and doomed to die when the heat which
created them has cooled down." CH Spurgeon The Golden Alphabet

David knew this so well - he said in Psalm 119:20
"My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times."

BUTTERFLIES

Butterflies are very nice;
Although they do not catch mice.

They bring pollen from flower to flower;
And stop to rest every hour.

BLACK SWALLOWTAIL

We were given the opprotunity to watch 8 of these magestic beauties transform in our own home.
They were devouring a friends fennel plant, and so we volunteered to take a few off thier hands.
The day after getting them home we had to do a careful search on line as to what to
feed them. We found that they liked Queen Anne's Lace. We had lots of that earlier in the summer, unfortunately most of it had gone to seed and dried up. But we did find a few new leaves shooting up and the caterpillars devoured every bit we fed them.
Hannah and Stephen were able to recognize it after just a few mornings out picking. We did pick most mornings, and enjoyed our morning "walk".

In about a week they began forming chrysalis. It is amazing how the whole thing is just hanging by 2 rather flimsy looking threads that they attach to the plant with. With all the bumping and moving around we did, not one of them fell off.

It took about 2 weeks for all 8 to make their chrysalis. The last one made his the day we left for our weekend trip to Virginia to pick Blueberries at Poppy Lundquist's.

We noticed that when they have completed their
metamorphsis they chrysalis turned clear, appearing black because of the coloring of the butterfly inside. We never acctually got to watch one come out, but we did see the right before and right after. This usually happened for us in the mid morning hours.
The butterflies then hung upside down to dry thier wings. They usually do this on twigs or branches or the stem they have been "hanging out" on. The first one to come out crawled onto Mom's finger - and hung upside down until it's wings had dried.
Once their wings were dry we would let them go in our backyard. One had it's wings folded, but time to dry it's wings helped out and later it too flew away. So far only four of them have come out. Another one was eaten by a pretator, leaving a small hole in the chrysalis. The others are still hanging onto thier branches. We have read of it taking up to 6 months before they come out. So they are still in thier "jar" on the table.

How amazing God has made these delicate, yet hardy insects. Butterflies - what beauties to behold.

Meet Grandpa Lundquist

Grandpa was born on October 18,1945 in Escalon, California. Some of his grandparents, aunts, and uncles also lived in California when he was born.

While Grandpa was growing up, he liked to play "Cowboys and Indians" with his friends and sister, Ann.

For pets his family had a dog named Skippy and a lot of cats.

A typical family dinner would inclde meatloaf or chicken. Great Grandma Lundquist cooked thier meals, and Great Grandpa Lundquist would read the Bible to them after dinner.

At Christmas Grandpa's family would open presents on Christmas Eve night after Great Grandpa Lundquist had milked the cows. Sometimes they would go to a church service at midnight on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day they would go to their Grandparents house.

The naming tradition in his family is Grandpa and his sister's middle names are family names.

One of Grandpas favorite things to do with his family was to pick almonds.

Grandpa was married to Grandma on June 13,1968, in Palo Alto, California.

WELCOME

We want to welcome you to our Blog. This blog has been a long time in the list of our TO DO’s. Let us begin by giving a brief look at the past year.

2008 began in Efland, NC – after moving in December of 2007 from Pittsburgh, PA area. We have thoroughly enjoyed living in the Efland house, as we call it. The yard was great – the cows in the pasture out back were fun to watch – and the house itself had a good layout for us, with rooms that were large and fit us nicely. The only drawback - the distance from church.
James was working from an office in Greensboro, NC; and we attended church in Wake Forest, NC (Rolesville actually). James was an hour from work and we were an hour from church. We spent our drives listening to sermons and music and memorizing scripture as a family.

In July, God allowed James to begin working from home a couple of days a week. Then a change in position allowed him to work from home full time. With James working from home we were now free to begin looking for a home closer to church. God provided us with a home; and we moved on November 1. We still reside in North Carolina, but have moved an hour east from our Efland house.

As a bonus we live next door to a family from church and are within 5 minutes of several other families. The funny thing is that the family we now are neighbors with, were looking at moving out to the Efland area last year. (I think our dear neighbors just wanted to be near us!)

By far the most exciting time in our home this year was the birth of our 6th son.

Samuel Courage Anton Lundquist

was born at home on September 18, 2008 after a very short labor.

Samuel - May he "grow in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men" (1 Sam 2:26) May he have ears to hear and obey God (I Samuel 3)
Courage - May he "be strong and of good courage" (Joshua 1)
Anton - James’ paternal great-grandfather

We can not imagine life without our little blessing. God has richly blessed our home.

Just a couple of weeks after moving into our home we made a promised trip to Texas. We were able to spend a week visiting with family. We would have enjoyed staying longer and visiting with our faithful friends in the area, but we were only able to play phone tag. We enjoyed making jellies, playing on the trampoline, litsening to Grandpa's stories, building bon fires, making cookies, drinking tea, cooking, taking pictures, and so much more.

So now that you are a little caught up on our lives, we will, Lord willing, keep you posted a little more often on all the things going on over on the east coast - at least our little section of it.

May you be encouraged as you read of the happenings around our house.
